I can’t give Konflik enough credit for this. He had a location, a vision and most importantly, he and Nastee had an incredible track in the chamber. When you’re set up for success, shooting directing and editing is a breeze.
I knew a tracking shot was the way to go once I stepped into the Lamp Shop. There was so much light color and depth in the background, from all directions. It was tricky though. Walking backward through a glass menagerie while pulling focus was the challenge. Thank you Nasty for holding my shirt and keeping me from smashing everything. Thank you Liz! (Sorry about the one that didn’t make it)
Technical notes: I used 2 Sony A7SIII’s and shot 4K S-Log3 in S-gamut 3. Camera 1 was on active stabilization with a 35 mm T1.3 Slr Magic cine lens pulled by a Tilta focus handle controlling a Nucleus Nano motor. Camera 2 was mounted on a Dji RS2 gimball with a 21mm T1.6 Slr Magic cine lens and the Dji Ronin focus motor.
The opening shots were done with the Dji Mavic Mini. I tracked the footage in Aftereffects and plugged in the opening credits and adjusted the virtual camera’s focus distance. I added a bloom effect to the interior shots by duplicating the clips and adding a luma key and blur to the top layer, making a glowing overlay from the lights.
The bar shots were quick and easy. The song was pretty much over by this point in the edit. I pulled some rack focus and atmospheric shots to get that end of the night vibe. This final part was dedicated to embellishing the presence of the love interest and sustaining tension from the lack of engagement.
